"Anthropomorphic animals, when taken out of narrative into actual visibility, always turn into buffoonery or nightmare -- at least with photography," C. S. Lewis wrote.
"Cartoons (if only Disney did not combine so much vulgarity with his genius!) would be another matter. A human, pantomime, Aslan would be, to me, blasphemy."

I read that same thing--I just wonder though if he would have the same view given advances in technology. Yes a puppet Aslan (such as was in the made for TV BBC "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe") would be horrendous, but a digitally animated one if done with the best technology available I think can/will work. Do you think CS Lewis would approve if he knew what technology can do now.
I think it really depends on CS Lewis' level of perfection. I'm sure that the CG Aslan will look spectacular. But there are still movies out there that use computer animation (even very good quality) and it still looks fake. But I figure if Lewis could handle a cartoon Aslan, he could certainly handle a CG Aslan.
My biggest question is whether the movie reflects the religious aspect the books portray. I'm sure Lewis would only approve the movies if they keep that element active. Otherwise, it would be like looking at the Bible only from a historic perspective.
